Recently, the doctors and Hong Anh Healthcare Group  staff participated in a specialized training program led by Professor Vincent Sai, CEO and Partner of Modality Partnership (United Kingdom)—one of the largest Primary Care providers within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS).

Hong Anh Healthcare Group – a comprehensive, continuous, and modern healthcare ecosystem is being developed in Vietnam.

Hong Anh is committed to partnering with Vietnam in its innovation efforts, contributing to the advancement of the national healthcare system with a strong foundation in primary care. We are dedicated to providing high-quality, effective, professional, and compassionate services across healthcare, clinical treatment, and rehabilitation, aiming for holistic healthcare that addresses both physical and mental well-being.

Modality Partnership is an award-winning NHS Primary Care and Community Healthcare organization in the United Kingdom. Established in 2009, the organization currently manages a network of more than 53 GP practices and community healthcare services, serving approximately 12 million people across the UK. Modality is widely recognized for driving innovation in healthcare through data-driven solutions, population health management, and international collaboration while delivering patient-centred models of care.

Drawing on many years of experience in healthcare leadership, system transformation, and Primary Care development, Professor Vincent Sai shared valuable practical insights into building a modern, efficient, and patient-centred healthcare system.

The Foundation of a Sustainable Healthcare System

One of the central messages of the training was the critical role of Primary Care in creating a sustainable healthcare system.

Primary Care extends beyond treating illnesses after they occur. Instead, it emphasizes disease prevention, early detection, continuous health management, and preventing disease progression. This proactive approach helps reduce the burden on specialized healthcare services while improving patient outcomes and optimizing healthcare costs.

According to Professor Vincent Sai, an effective Primary Care system requires close collaboration among family physicians, community healthcare professionals, clinics, and hospitals. Every healthcare professional plays an essential role throughout the patient’s journey—from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up care.

Beyond clinical expertise, interdisciplinary collaboration and mutual respect among healthcare professionals are equally important. When every department works together toward a shared goal, patients benefit from faster access to safer, more coordinated, and more comprehensive healthcare services.

Artificial Intelligence: An Intelligent Assistant in Modern Healthcare

Another key topic of the program was the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern healthcare systems.

Reflecting current practices in the United Kingdom, AI is not viewed as a replacement for healthcare professionals. Instead, it serves as an intelligent assistant that supports clinical teams, streamlines operational workflows, and enhances the quality of patient care.

AI can assist in patient navigation, initial triage, appointment scheduling, administrative tasks, and improving communication between patients and healthcare providers. These capabilities help reduce waiting times while allowing physicians to dedicate more time to direct patient care and clinical decision-making.

In addition, AI can rapidly retrieve and synthesize information from clinical guidelines, evidence-based protocols, and validated medical research. During patient assessment, AI can support clinicians by suggesting differential diagnoses, identifying abnormal findings, and highlighting potential risk factors that require further attention.

However, all final clinical decisions—including diagnosis and treatment—remain the responsibility of qualified physicians, who rely on clinical examination, professional expertise, and each patient’s individual circumstances.

When implemented responsibly, AI not only reduces administrative workload but also strengthens collaboration across healthcare teams, contributing to a smarter, safer, and more efficient healthcare system.

Continuous Learning to Enhance Patient Care

The training program extended beyond healthcare management, leadership, and digital transformation. It also inspired participants with a vision of a modern healthcare system where technology, clinical excellence, and collaboration work together to create sustainable value for both patients and healthcare professionals.

For the Hong Anh HealthCare Group team, every training opportunity is a chance to stay updated with the latest global healthcare trends, strengthen professional capabilities, and continuously improve service quality. It is firmly believed that patients benefit the most when healthcare professionals are continuously supported in learning and professional development, resulting in increasingly professional, compassionate, and patient-centred healthcare services.

The Modality Model: Building Sustainable Healthcare Organizations

Professor Vincent Sai also introduced the Modality Model, the organizational development framework that has supported Modality Partnership in building and expanding one of the United Kingdom’s largest Primary Care networks.

According to this model, the success of a healthcare organization should not be measured solely by financial performance. Instead, sustainable growth depends on maintaining the right balance between three interconnected pillars:

  • Strategy – establishing a clear long-term vision and direction.
  • Operations – delivering efficient, high-quality clinical and administrative services.
  • Finance – ensuring long-term financial sustainability to support continuous growth.

Rather than functioning independently, these three elements must be developed in harmony. When strategy, operations, and finance are aligned, healthcare organizations are better positioned to adapt, innovate, and provide consistent, high-quality care.

Professor Sai emphasized that organizational alignment is equally important. When employees understand the organization’s goals, recognize their individual roles, and work collaboratively toward a mutual purpose, daily operations become more efficient, communication improves, and unnecessary obstacles are significantly reduced.

CARE: The Core Values Behind Sustainable Success

At the heart of the Modality Model lies the CARE framework, which serves as the foundation of the organization’s culture and decision-making.

C – Commitment

A commitment to patients, service quality, and continuous improvement in healthcare delivery.

A – Accountability

Taking responsibility for every decision, every action, and every patient interaction with professionalism and integrity.

R – Respect

Treating colleagues, patients, and the wider community with dignity, empathy, and mutual respect while fostering an inclusive and collaborative workplace.

E – Excellence

Continuously pursuing innovation and quality improvement to achieve the highest standards of healthcare.

Professor Vincent Sai highlighted that when these values become embedded within an organization’s culture, healthcare providers not only operate more effectively but also build lasting trust with patients, employees, and the communities they serve.

These principles extend beyond business management. They form the cornerstone of a patient-centred culture, ensuring that every decision, process, and interaction is guided by the shared goal of delivering exceptional healthcare experiences and outcomes.

People-Centred Leadership for Long-Term Growth

Another important message from Professor Sai was that sustainable healthcare organizations are built not only on sound strategies and efficient operations but also on engaged, motivated, and valued people.

He emphasized that strategy, operational excellence, and financial performance should develop together—not in isolation. Equally important is creating a positive working environment where employees receive fair recognition, meaningful career development opportunities, and equitable rewards for their contributions.

When healthcare professionals feel respected, empowered, and supported, they become more motivated to provide compassionate, high-quality care. In turn, this creates greater value for patients and establishes a stronger foundation for long-term organizational success.

As Professor Sai noted, investing in people is ultimately an investment in better healthcare outcomes and a more resilient healthcare system.

Leadership and Organizational Culture: The Key to Sustainable Growth

In addition to clinical and operational topics, Professor Vincent Sai devoted significant time to discussing the vital role of leadership in healthcare. He emphasized that sustainable growth requires more than clinical excellence—it demands effective governance, where strategy, operations, finance, and patient experience are seamlessly integrated.

One of the most insightful sessions focused on five leadership styles, each serving a distinct purpose and requiring flexible application depending on the organization’s stage of development and specific circumstances.

Collaborative Leadership

Collaborative leaders encourage team members to contribute ideas, share responsibilities, and work together across departments. This approach is particularly valuable in healthcare, where physicians, nurses, administrative staff, and support teams must coordinate closely to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.

Autocratic Leadership

Autocratic leadership enables leaders to make prompt and decisive decisions during emergencies or situations involving patient safety. In healthcare settings, this style is essential during critical incidents where immediate action is necessary to protect patients’ lives and well-being.

Transformational Leadership

Transformational leaders inspire innovation, encourage continuous learning, and empower teams to embrace change. This leadership style is especially important as healthcare organizations adapt to digital transformation, technological advancements, and the rapidly evolving medical landscape.

Transactional Leadership

Transactional leadership focuses on clearly defined objectives, responsibilities, and performance standards. Team members understand their roles, receive transparent performance evaluations, and are appropriately recognized for their contributions. This approach helps establish accountability, discipline, and consistency in delivering high-quality healthcare services.

Laissez-faire Leadership

Laissez-faire leadership empowers experienced professionals by granting them greater autonomy and encouraging independent decision-making within their areas of expertise. When applied appropriately, this leadership style fosters creativity, professional ownership, and the development of a highly capable and self-directed workforce.

Professor Vincent Sai emphasized that exceptional leaders are not defined by a single leadership style. Rather, they are those who understand when and how to adapt their leadership approach to different individuals, teams, and situations.

In healthcare, effective leadership ultimately depends on cultivating a culture of trust, respect, and collaboration, where every team member is united by a shared commitment to delivering the highest standard of patient care.

Looking Ahead

To realize this vision, healthcare organizations must continuously invest in their people by fostering a positive working environment, providing fair and equitable rewards, supporting professional development, and nurturing a culture built on mutual respect.

When employees feel valued, empowered, and fulfilled in their work, they are inspired to deliver compassionate, high-quality care that creates meaningful value for patients and the wider community.

The training program provided the Hong Anh Medical System team with valuable insights into Primary Care, organizational management, leadership development, and the practical application of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare. More importantly, it reinforced our commitment to continuously enhancing service quality, strengthening our professional capabilities, and building a modern healthcare environment that is compassionate, innovative, and truly patient-centred.
